Sex crimes are among the most serious crimes charged in Chicago and the suburbs – many of them are felonies, and nearly all of them require you to register as a sex offender if you’re convicted.
But what should you do if you’re accused of a sex crime in Chicago, Skokie or Rolling Meadows?
Find out now.
What to Do if You’re Accused of a Sex Offense in Chicago
First things first: You’re entitled to legal representation any time you’re accused of committing a crime, thanks to the U.S. Constitution. You have the absolute right to tell investigators or anyone who’s questioning you that you don’t want to say anything until you’ve talked to your attorney, so do it.
Don’t answer any questions, even if you’re completely innocent – and even if police tell you that being honest is a sure-fire way to get the judge to “go easy” on you.
Simply let the police know that you want to talk to a lawyer before you answer any questions.

Getting in Contact With a Lawyer
Regardless of the crime you’re accused of committing, you can get in touch with a lawyer. Don’t think that getting a lawyer makes you look guilty, either – it makes you look smart, because our jails and prisons house plenty of people who didn’t actually commit the crimes they’re accused of committing.
Some of the most common sex crimes our office deals with include:
- Solicitation or sexual exploitation of a child
- Soliciting a prostitute
- Prostitution
- Pimping
- Child pornography
- Criminal sexual assault (rape)
- Criminal sexual abuse
- Forcible detention
- Patronizing, pandering or pimping
- Public indecency
- Sexual misconduct of a person with a disability
- Kidnapping or child abduction when the offense was sexually motivated
- Failure to register as a sex offender
